The A Capella Academy at Ukaria

The rich tradition of a cappella singing is exemplified by groups such as The Gesualdo Six and VOCES8. In this precise work of matching and blending vocal colour, a deep understanding of the techniques involved is crucial, and there are few in the world better placed to coach this than Timothy Wayne-Wright.

Now based in New Zealand, Timothy was a member of the Grammy-winning ensemble The King’s Singers for ten years. He has toured the world, sung over 1,500 concerts, and taught hundreds of masterclasses and workshops, imparting chamber music skills to choirs and instrumentalists across the globe.

Over four days at UKARIA, a group of Adelaide’s most committed and skilled ensemble singers will come together for a new initiative in UKARIA’s masterclass series. Our inaugural A Cappella Academy will culminate in a special finale featuring performances from the Adelaide Chamber Singers and Aurora Vocal Ensemble directed by Christie Anderson, ACS– a new professional training choir attached to the Adelaide Chamber Singers – directed by Carl Crossin, and the Festival Statesmen Chorus directed by Jonathan Bligh, in a program ranging from early Renaissance polyphony to contemporary a cappella repertoire.
